Pakistan Holds National SDGs Conference

Bringing together experts, parliamentarians, national and international stakeholders, UN representatives, civil societies, academia, and specialists from diverse fields, The Ministry of Planning Development & Special Initiatives hosted a one-day National SDGs Conference on May 16 2024 in Islamabad. The conference aimed at reiterating government’s commitment to inclusive development, focusing on improving citizen’s quality of life and safeguarding future generation’s interests.

The conference discussions primarily addressed the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainable development, with a significant focus on the inclusion of marginalized communities. The session underscored the importance of smart urbanization, renewable energy, and ensuring that policies and plans incorporate these communities. The economic segment highlighted the need for inclusive development, enhancing women’s participation in the workforce, prioritizing the 20 poorest districts, and allocating resources to alleviate poverty, ensuring that marginalized groups are not left behind. The social session of the conference emphasized the need for inclusive education policies, decreasing social and income inequalities for women in agriculture, and achieving universal health coverage targets by 2030.

The conference was attended by Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives and it highlights the commitment of Government of Pakistan to achieving SDG goals within given timeframe.
